The company was established in 1927 by its namesake, John G. Cassar who was Alfred Mizzi’s cousin. In the early 1950s, John Cassar became a lay brother of the Society of Jesus and sold the company to Alfred. The company was left more or less dormant until the early 1980s when it was decided to resuscitate its activity as a trading company.
Today, John G. Cassar Ltd is a leading importer and distributor of toys, greeting cards and stationery with distribution agreements for LEGO, Hasbro, Pilot Pen, UHU, Hallmark and GO Travel.
The company currently operates from an office and warehouse complex in Qormi, a central area of the island. This complex also houses product showrooms and meeting rooms. John G. Cassar Ltd employs around 15 members of staff.
John G. Cassar Ltd is currently undergoing a change in its traditional business model with more focus and resources dedicated to brand building and marketing.
A particular area in which it is planning growth is through its retail subsidiary, Leisure Stores Ltd.
